1993

1993 - Michael launches his "MJJ Music" record label.

~1993 - Michael does a photoshoot for an advertisement for the World Book Encyclopedia, which is distributed to American classrooms.

January 16, 1993 - Michael attends the 25th NAACP Image Awards and accepts the "Outstanding Music Video" award for his "Black or White" short film. He also gives a speech upon being awarded the 25th Silver Anniversary Entertainer of the Year Award following a tribute performance of "Will You Be There" by Patti Labelle & gospel singer Daryl Coley. Michael sings with the group as a finale for the award ceremony.

January 17, 1993 - Michael visits a children's hospital before appearing on the televised "Call for Reunion" concert at the Lincoln Memorial for "America's Reunion on the Mall", a festival for Bill Clinton's upcoming inauguration, performing "We Are the World" and "America the Beautiful" with other artists (including Diana Ross). January 19, 1993 - Michael appears on the televised "The 52nd Presidential Inaugural Gala" in Landover, Maryland at The Capital Centre i n honor of President Bill Clinton, making an appeal on behalf of AIDS sufferers and his friend Ryan White, and performing "Gone Too Soon". He also performs "Heal the World" and joins Fleetwood Mac and other celebrities on the finale of "Don't Stop".

***January 25, 1993 - Michael appears on the "20th Annual American Music Awards", performing "Dangerous"; he accepts the "Favorite Soul/R&B Song Award" for "Remember the Time", "Favorite Pop/Rock Album" for his album "Dangerous", and the "International Artist Award", presented by Eddie Murphy.

January 26, 1993 - Michael attends a press conference at the Century Plaza Hotel in Los Angeles to accept a check of $100,000 from the NFL and Frito Lay (Super Bowl sponsor) and $500,000 from Best Foundation for his Heal The World Foundation. Michael also announces his "Heal L.A." project.

January 31, 1993 - Michael performs a medley of 'Jam', 'Billie Jean', 'Black Or White' and 'Heal The World' at the Super bowl Halftime Show in the Rose Bowl Stadium, Pasadena (California) before an audience of 100 000 in the stadium and 133 millions on TV.

February 10, 1993 - Michael gives a live televised interview for "Michael Jackson Talks…to Oprah", from Neverland Valley, broadcast around the world to over 100 million viewers, discussing his childhood, the reason for his skin color (vitiligo), plastic surgery, if he was a virgin, the moonwalk, and sings an acapella version of ‘Who Is It.’

February 24, 1993 - Michael attends the "35th Annual Grammy Awards" with Brooke Shields, accepting the "Grammy Legend Award" from sister Janet. He gives a speech on the loss of childhood and the need to recognize the importance of the world's children.  Following the presentation, Michael & Brooke attend the Polygram Party at A&M Studios and later show up at the Sony Party in Century City.

February 26, 1993 - Michael speaks about Elizabeth Taylor for her "Biography" episode on Arts & Entertainment Network (A&E), discussing Taylor's stardom, and how they share a similar childhood and loneliness.

~March 1993 - Michael works on Sonic 3 music.

March 1993 - Michael updates and approves the second music video for "Who Is It", which is a compilation video of his performances by MTV producer Glenn Ribble.

March 8, 1993 - Michael sprains his ankle during rehearsals for his "Soul Train Music Awards" performance. Michael's announcement of "Michael Jackson Productions Inc.", a film production company, which will give a share of its profits to his "Heal the World Foundation", is published.

March 9, 1993 - Michael appears at the Soul Train Music Awards in a wheelchair with crutches, accepting the "Humanitarian of the Year Award" from Eddie Murphy after a montage of his humanitarian achievements is shown, accepting the “Best R&B/Soul Single Award” for "Remember the Time", and presenting the "Heritage Award" to Eddie Murphy. He later performs "Remember the Time" in his wheelchair, and accepts the “Best R&B/Soul Album Award” for “Dangerous”.

March 11, 1993 - Michael attends the "AFI Life Achievement Award: A Tribute to Elizabeth Taylor" in crutches for his friend Elizabeth Taylor's award acceptance in Los Angeles, California, at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.

April 15, 1993 - The music video for "Whatzupwitu", in which Michael performs the song with Eddie Murphy, is aired on MTV, Fox, and BET.

March 26, 1993 - Michael is announced to be working with Michael Milken to launch a television education network,

March 27, 1993 - Michael attends The Milken Family Foundation National Educator Awards, whose assignment is to support education and medical research. Michael gives a five minute speech and performs ‘Heal The World’ surrounded by a group of children.

May 5, 1993 - Michael is invited by ex-president Jimmy Carter to Atlanta, Georgia, in order to boost the Atlanta Immunisation Drive. May 12, 1993 - Michael attends the World Music Awards with Jordy Chandler, his sister Lily & mother June where he wins three awards presented by Michael Douglas, Prince Albert & Princess Stephanie.

May 19, 1993 - Michael receives the first ever Lifetime Achievement Award from Norris McWhirther, the Editor of the Guinness Museum of World Records in Los Angeles and Lori Byler, then president of the Michael Jackson Observer Fan Club, presents Jackson with a second award, a plaque acknowledging his work with children.

May 24, 1993 - Michael's "Will You Be There" single, along with its cover and music video, is released. The music video includes footage from the Dangerous World Tour and the "MTV's 10th Anniversary Special". A second version is released later in "Dangerous: The Short Films".

~Early Summer 1993 - Michael signs off on two film ideas put to him by producer Rusty Lemorande, remakes of the James Cagney film "Angels With Dirty Faces" and the 1964 film "7 Faces of Dr. Lao".

June 1993 - Michael's interview and photoshoot with "Life" magazine, giving a grand tour of his Neverland home and discussing its mission, is published.

June 1993 - Michael's brief interview and photoshoot with "Disney Adventures" magazine, including a short handwritten message, is published.

June 5, 1993 - Michael interviews with Rick Dees on KIIS FM radio station for the Top 40 Radio Show.

June 23, 1993 - Michael's mailed-in tape of his performance of "Jam" at Wembley Stadium is shown for the "Together For Our Children -- M.U.S.I.C." special benefiting a children immunization program (Musicians Unite with Stars to Immunize Children).

June 19, 1993 - Michael gives a short interview at Neverland for MTV's "My Weekend at Michael's Neverland Valley Contest" and chooses a grand-prize winner. Contestants had sent in their home made videos for Michael’s song, ‘Who Is It’, and 3 winners were invited to stay the weekend. Michael would choose the winner of the best video, who would get $10,000 and an opportunity to direct an Epic Records music video.

July 13, 1993 - Michael's signing of 3T, a musical group composed of his newphews Taj, Taryll, and T.J., on his "MJJ Music" label, results in the release of their first song "Didn't Mean to Hurt You" on the "Free Willy" soundtrack; Michael also includes "Will You Be There" on the soundtrack.

August 14, 1993 - Michael accepts the "Our Children, Our Hope Of Tomorrow Award" at the "Jack the Rapper Awards" via video message.

August 26, 1993 - Michael records an audio message to announce that Bangkok's scheduled concert is again rescheduled for August 27.

~Summer 1993 - Michael watches "What's Love Got to Do With It", a biopic about Tina Turner, in his Neverland Ranch home theater with photographer Harrison Funk, and becomes emotional after witnessing a scene of abuse in the film.

Summer 1993 - Michael records a demo entitled "Addams Groove" / "Family Thing" for the upcoming "Addams Family Values" film.

July 9, 1993 - Michael meets Nelson Mandela, who has flown in with his family to visit Michael and Elizabeth Taylor in Los Angeles; Michael asks photographer Harrison Funk to do a photoshoot of him with Taylor and Mandela.

August 1993 - Michael's recipe for Maple Pecan Butter Cookies, submitted in "The Rock and Roll Cookbook", is published with the book.

August 10 - Mid-August 1993 - Michael films some of his scenes for "Is This Scary", a short film with Stephen King as the director. Filming is cancelled due to Michael's stress from allegations and filming recommences under a different name, "Ghosts", on April 15, 1996.

~Mid-August - Late 1993 - Michael writes a song entitled "Innocent Man".

August 5, 1993 - Michael attends a performance of ballet dancer Mikhail Baryshnikov with Debbie Rowe and Arnold Klein in Orange County, California.

August 29 / September 1, 1993 - Michael performs in Republic of Singapore, Singapore, at Singapore National Stadium for his "Dangerous World Tour"; during the first concert, fans sing him "Happy Birthday". On the 31st, he records an audio message to apologize that the scheduled August 30 concert would be moved to September 1 due to taking ill.

Fall 1993 - Michael's speech discussing his "Heal the World Foundation" is pressed in 50 copies of an upcoming "Signature Series" album for Walkman purchasers in a track entitled "Heal the World (Including a Special Message From Michael Jackson)", before the album is cancelled.

September 1993 - Michael's written introduction for "Pigtails And Frog Legs: A Family Cookbook from Neiman Marcus" is published, where he explains the deeper meaning of cooking for children.

September 4/6, 1993 - Michael performs in Taipei, Taiwan at the Taipei Municipal Stadium for his "Dangerous World Tour".

September 15, 1993 - Michael performs in Moscow, Russia at the Luzhniki Stadium for his "Dangerous World Tour".

September 16, 1993 - (From Chris Cadman's "Michael Jackson the Maestro", confirm in "Visual Documentary") Michael is due to fly out of Russia to head for Israel for the next part of his tour, but decides to stay behind to visit a children’s hospital. Michael flies one of the youngsters to America for treatment from a specialist. While at the hospital, the youngster sings a song to him in Russian.

September 23, 1993 - Michael performs in Istanbul, Turkey, at the BJK İnönü Stadium for his "Dangerous World Tour"; he accepts the "Gold Otto Award" from "Bravo" magazine reporter Alex Gernarndt backstage.

September 26, 1993 - Michael performs in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Spain, at Port of Santa Cruz de Tenerife for his "Dangerous World Tour". He records a radio message prior to his visit (noted in document section).

October 8/10/12, 1993 - Michael performs in Buenos Aires, Argentina at the River Plate Stadium for his "Dangerous World Tour".

October 15/17, 1993 - Michael performs in São Paulo, Brazil at Estádio do Morumbi for his "Dangerous World Tour".

October 23, 1993 - Michael performs in Santiago, Chile at the Estadio Nacional for his "Dangerous World Tour".

November 8 and 10, 1993 - Michael attends a deposition in Mexico City, Mexico, at  for "Michael v. Smith", a copyright infringement lawsuit brought by three songwriters claiming 'Thriller', 'The Girl Is Mine' & 'We Are The World' were stolen from them; a jury ruled in Michael's favor on January 12, 1994. One of the few positives of the ordeal is the world came to know more of Michael's creative process and a number of his unreleased songs.

November 12, 1993 - Michael announces the cancellation of his Dangerous Tour and his need for treatment, releasing a taped message for publicists; he leaves with Liz & Larry, stopping off in Canada and Iceland and finally lands at Luton airport in England. Liz & Larry fly on to Gstaad while Michael secretly goes to London.

November 14, 1993 - Michael is moved to Elton John's manager John Reid's home to continue his treatment. The settlement to the Chandlers, which is refused by Michael, but pushed forward by his lawyer Johnnie Cochran and his insurance company to minimize financial losses on their end, is finalized. A spokesman for Pepsico announces their relationship with Michael Jackson is over.

November 16, 1993 - Michael requests the Western Friends of Hebrew University to withdraw his name as recipient of their "Scopus Laureate Award", the ceremony of which is scheduled for January 29, 1994, while he is recovering from his addiction to prescription medication.

December 1, 1993 - Michael's second version of the "Gone Too Soon" music video/short film, in tribute to Ryan White, airs on World AIDS Day alongside the release of the "Gone Too Soon" single.

December 22, 1993 - Michael gives astatement, live from Neverland in a worldwide broadcast, where he claims his innocence and reveals details of the photo session he endured with the police department.

December 24, 1993 - Michael celebrates Christmas Eve with Frank Cascio, his parents, and others at Neverland; a woman dressed up as Mother Goose reads nursery rhymes and sings as they drink tea and eat cookies around the fire. (Gottahaverockandroll footage)
