January 18, 1980 - Michael appears on the "7th Annual American Music Awards", accepting the "Favorite Soul/R&B Song Award for "Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough", "Favorite Soul/R&B Album Award" for his "Off the Wall" album, and "Favorite Soul/R&B Male Artist Award. He then speaks in tribute for Berry Gordy's work and presents the "Favorite Pop/Rock Album" to the Bee Gees.

~January-April, 1980 - Michael and LaToya give an interview for "Jet" magazine, where he discusses the origins of "Night Time Lover", and his strong belief in cultivating God-given talents.

~January-April, 1980 -  Michael records background vocals for "Night Time Lover", a song he originally co-wrote with LaToya Jackson for Donna Summer, for LaToya's "LaToya Jackson" album.

January 27, 1980 - Michael attends the "NAACP Image Awards" where The Jacksons receive the Image Award for best singing group of the year and Michael for Best Actor in 'The Wiz'. Michael also accepts awards for Quincy Jones & Charlie Smalls (Best Musical Score), Lena Horne (Best Supporting Actress), Nipsey Russell (Best supporting Actor), and Rob Cohen (Best Producer).

January 29, 1980 - Michael performs "Rock With You" at "Because We Care", a charity concert held at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion in Los Angeles.

February 1980 - Michael's interview with "Hit Parader" magazine, discussing The Jacksons' success with "Destiny", working outside his family, recording his own vs. others' work, and his interest in future film work, is published.

February 27, 1980 - Although Michael wins "Best R&B Vocal Performance Award" at the "22nd Annual Grammy Awards", his first Grammy award as a solo performer, for "Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough", he does not attend due to receiving only one nomination for his "Off the Wall" album after its enormous success.

March 6, 1980 - Michael sings a medley of songs on Kraft Salutes Disneyland’s 25th Anniversary Show. Michael sings ‘When You Wish Upon A Star,’ ‘Follow The Yellow Brick Road’ and ‘Ease On Down The Road’ with a variety of Disney characters. During a break in filming, Michael went on the rides with his photographer and friend Todd Gray.

March 23, 1980 - Michael interviews with "Countdown" presenter Molly Meldrum by phone, discussing the success of his "Off The Wall" album and the "Destiny" album.

March 29, 1980 - Michael's interview with "Juke" Magazine is published, where he discusses the possibility of recording a duet with Paul McCartney in the future and his involvement with films after The Wiz.

May 1980 - Michael's interview with "Night Beat" magazine, discussing the tranquility of his home, scary moments on tour, parents' wisdom, and his upbringing, is published.

May 14, 1980 - Michael appears on "The Wolfman Jack Radio Show".

April-May 1980 - Michael records vocals on Minnie Riperton's duet " I'm in Love Again" for her posthumous album "Love Lives Forever".

June 1980 - Michael interviews with "Rock & Soul" magazine.

~July 8, 9, 11-12, 1980 - Michael visits one of the concerts for Queen's "The Game Tour" in Los Angeles, California at The Forum. He sees the band afterwards, and during conversation, suggests they release "Another One Bites the Dust" as a single.

~July 19-September 23, 1 980 - Michael spends 10 days in New Hampshire on the set of the film "On Golden Pond" to visit his friend Jane Fonda and watch the filming. While there he forms friendships with the movie’s other stars Henry Fonda & Katherine Hepburn.

September 3, 1980 - Michael and The Jacksons receive a star at the Hollywood Walk of Fame bearing "The Jacksons", which is placed by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce; Michael also receives an award for his four Top 10 "Off The Wall" singles.

September 5, 1980 - Michael and The Jacksons perform in Honolulu, Hawaii, at Honolulu International Center for their "Destiny World Tour".

September 17-19 and 25-26, 1980 - Michael and The Jacksons perform in Inglewood of southwestern Los Angeles, California, at The Forum for the Destiny World Tour.

September 29, 1980 - Michael's background vocal performance in Stevie Wonder's "All I Do" is released in Wonder's "Hotter than July" album.
