1987

Mid-February - May 1987 - Michael begins filming a short film for the song 'Smooth Criminal' on his upcoming album. The video is directed by Colin Chilvers on a story written by Michael. It features young actors Sean Lennon, Kellie Parker & Brandon Adams plus Joe Pesci and among the dancers, Lavelle Smith who will become Michael choreographer.

March 1987 - Michael works on Bad album in studio, as documented by Spin Magazine.

~Spring 1987 - Michael records "Just Good Friends" with Stevie Wonder.

March 13 and 17, 1987 - Michael records "Cheater".

Mid-March 1987 - Michael immediately grants permission for the "Ferry Aid" group to record "Let it Be" to raise funds for the aftermath of the Zeebrugge ferry disaster.

~May 1987 - Michael records "Man in the Mirror".

~May 1987 - Michael records "I Just Can't Stop Loving You".

June 22, 1987 - Michael, while recording in studio, hears of the passing of Fred Astaire, and tells singer/songwriter Siedah Garrett about Astaire's influence on him.

July 1987 - Michael begins to record a French version of "I Just Can't Stop Loving You", entitled "Je Ne Veux Pas La Fin De Nous", and translated by Christine Decroix.

July 13, 1987 - 25 CBS Records executives and representatives are invited to a dinner party at Hayvenhurst where they are treated with a preview of the 'Bad' album and the 'Bad' short film.

August 20-22, 1987 - Michael attends one of the Frank Sinatra and Sammy Davis Jr. reunion concerts in Los Angeles, California, at the Greek Theatre; he also attends an after-show party with Sophia Loren, meeting with actors Elizabeth Taylor, Liza Minnelli, and Tom Selleck.

August 24, 1987 - The "Michael Jackson Burn Center" closes down due to lack of funds. Michael states through his publicist, Lee Solters that it is "deplorable, cruel and for commercial reasons." Solters says that Michael plans to find another hospital to take on a burn unit bearing his name.

August 27, 1987 - Michael's interview with "Sky" magazine, discussing early years, his idea of an average adult in his life, his addiction to the stage, fasting, and Peter Pan.

August 28, 1987 - Michael speaks on today's closing of "The Michael Jackson Burn Center" at Brotman Medical Center.

August 31, 1987 - Michael's album, "Bad", including his album cover and liner notes, is released. (BONUS) The worldwide TV special "The Magic Returns" airs, which includes the premiere of the "Bad" music video / short film.

~Early September 1987 - Michael writes a message for the "The World of Michael Jackson" fourth international fan club newsletter, discussing about the start of his "Bad" Tour, and his love for "Man in the Mirror".

September 1987 - Michael appears in a Pepsi commercial with young actor Jimmy Safechuck.

September 1, 1987 - Michael interviews with Darryl Dennard at Brooklyn Museum for the "Ebony / Jet Showcase" TV show.

September 10, 1987 - Michael arrives in Tokyo, Japan with pet chimp Bubbles, Katherine, Joe, LaToya and her manager Jack Gordon, Quincy Jones, Frank Dileo, Karen Faye, Michael Bush, Bill Bray, Wayne Nagin, and Donny Osmond. He stays at the Capitol Hotel.

September 12-14, 1987 - Michael performs his first concerts of the "Bad Tour" in Tokyo, Japan, at Korakuen Stadium. Michael records vocals for Stevie Wonder's "Get It" for Wonder's "Characters" album.  On one of the days, he interviews with Molly Meldrum for CBS Australia's "60 Minutes" in his Tokyo hotel room, discussing "Thriller", his disguises, "We Are The World", and world peace. One evening, he writes an answer for journalist Todd Gold's question for "People" Magazine on the public's misunderstanding of him. (Undated "Bad Tour" stories in the gold document). September 18, 1987 - Michael receives the Key to the City from Yasushi Oshima, the mayor of Osaka; he later meets the mayor of Osaka and him and Bubbles participate in a tea ceremony.

September 25-27, and October 3-4, 1987 - Michael performs in Yokohama, Japan at the Yokohama Stadium for his "Bad World Tour". He dedicates his September 26 concert to 5-year-old Yoshiaki Ogiwara, an Osaka boy who was kidnapped and murdered recently; Michael sends condolences and $20,000 to his family.

October 10-12, 1987 - Michael performs in Osaka, Japan at the Osaka Stadium for his "Bad World Tour".

~Mid-Late October 1987 - Michael visits Shaw Brothers Studio and TVB City in Clear Water Bay in Hong Kong.

October 19, 1987 - Michael ]arrives in Hong Kong at Kai Tak airport from a Tokyo flight.

October 31, 1987 - Michael's interview, discussing the creation of "Rock With You", airs in a "Hot Rocks: Michael Jackson" radio special.

November 11, 1987 - Michael arrives in Sydney and takes an onward flight to Melbourne. On one of the days during his stay in Australia, he visits one of the "Brashs" music stores and signs autographs.

November 20-21, 1987 - Michael performs in Sydney, Australia at the Parramatta Stadium for his "Bad World Tour". He meets theater director Trevor Nunn to share ideas with each other for his "Bad World Tour", and, upon discovering that Nunn directed the Peter Pan musical in London, invites and asks him to critique one of his Sydney concerts.

November 25, 1987 - Michael calls producer, director, editor Don Wilson to give his concepts and ideas for the "Man in the Mirror" music video / short film.

December 1987 - Michael writes a message in Issue 5 of Michael Jackson International Fan Club, talking about being back on the stage and thanking fans for their support.

December 23, 1987 / January 9, 1988 - Michael shoots for his "Leave Me Alone" music video / short film.

March 1988 - Michael writes a message in Issue 6 of Michael Jackson International Fan Club, talking about the continuation of the tour and thanking fans for their support.
