1989

1989: Michael co-writes and records "Monkey Business".

1989 - Michael records "Work That Body", a song co-written with Bryan Loren.

January 1989 - Michael records vocals for "2300 Jackson Street", the title song for The Jacksons' next album.

January 16, 1989 - Michael performs in Los Angeles, where the proceeds were donated to Childhelp USA, the biggest charity organization against child abuse. In appreciation of the contributions of Michael, Childhelp of Southern California founded the "Michael Jackson International Institute for Research On Child Abuse".

January 27, 1989 - Michael performs the final concert of The Bad Tour in Los Angeles, California at the Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena.

January 30, 1989 - Michael appears on the "16th Annual American Music Awards", accepting the "Video Pioneer Award" from "Cashbox" magazine, and the "Award of Achievement" for the sales achievements of his album "Bad".

February 1989 - Michael writes a message in Issue 7 of Michael Jackson International Fan Club, talking about the wrap-up of the Bad Tour, relaxing at Neverland, humility, and God.

February 7, 1989 - Michael visits Grover Cleveland Elementary School after hearing of the January 17 shooting, speaking and handing out gifts to students.

February 14, 1989 - Michael fires manager Frank Dileo.

March 1989 - Michael films for the "2300 Jackson Street" music video with most of the Jackson family members at Tito's house.

March 1989 - Michael calls clay animator Will Vinton and is included in his own "California Raisins" commercial; he collaborates with the animators over the following months with video tapes. The commercial airs in theaters starting July 28, 1989.

April 12, 1989 - Michael appears at the "Soul Train Music Awards", accepting the "Heritage Award for Career Achievement" and the "Sammy Davis Jr. Award for Entertainer of the Year" after Elizabeth Taylor's speech, which includes a Bad Tour montage and the first time he's referred to as the "King of Pop". He later accepts "Best R&B/Urban Contemporary Single" and "Best R&B/Urban Contemporary Music Video" for "Man in the Mirror".

April 14, 1989 -  Michael accepts two awards at the "World Music Awards" from Whitney Houston via satellite from Neverland.

April 18, 1989 - Michael films for his "Liberian Girl" music video.

April 30, 1989 - Michael holds a "Getting to Know You Party" at his Neverland home to meet all the employees and their families.

May 1, 1989 - Michael, while donning a fake mustache and false teeth to disguise himself, goes shopping in Simi Valley with friend Jimmy Safechuck; they stop by a "Zales Jewelers" in Simi Valley, and police, after mistaking him for a robber, confront him. After Michael reveals himself, him and Safechuck, without making a purchase, then visit a nearby gift store, buying several toy figurines and a pair of heart-shaped sunglasses.

May 3, 1989 - Michael accepts the "Best Children of the World Music Video Award" via video at the "Rock Over Europe Awards" in Amsterdam, Netherlands at the Royal Theater Carré.

May 28, 1989 - Michael attends the "Black Radio Exclusive Awards", accepting the "Humanitarian Award" and two other music awards.

Early Summer 1989 - Michael's written message for "The World of Michael Jackson" sixth international fan club newsletter, discussing his experience of seeing fans on his "Bad World Tour", thanking fans for support, and well wishes, is published.

June 7, 1989 - Michael writes down a quote from Michaelangelo that resonates with him to give to his friend, painter Brett-Livingstone Strong.

~July 1989 - Michael records "Black or White".

Fall 1989 - Michael's written message for "The World of Michael Jackson" seventh international fan club newsletter, discussing his life after finishing his "Bad World Tour", his emotional experiences on stage, thanking God, and thanking fans for support, is published.

Fall 1989 - Michael records "Heal the World".

September 13, 1989 - Michael attends a press conference to announce his new sponsorship deal with L.A. Gear. The partnership involves Michael helping design a line of shoes for L.A. Gear.

September 22, 1989 - Michael accepts the Capital Children's Museum's "Humanitarian Award", via taped video message, at the 8th annual "Best Of Washington Celebrity Fashion Show and Luncheon" at the Sheraton Washington Hotel.

October 1989 - Michael does a photoshoot with photographer Annie Leibovitz for "Vanity Fair" magazine.

October 11, 1989 - Michael visits Gardner Elementary School in Hollywood where he attended sixth grade. The school renames his auditotorium “The Michael Jackson Auditorium”. Michael gives a speech to thank his former teacher Mrs Gerstin & former tutor, Rose Fine who attend the event.

December 7, 1989 - Michael attends the world class boxing fight between Sugar Ray Leonard & Roberto Duran at the Mirage Hotel in Las Vegas.

November 13, 1989 - Michael sings 'You Were There' during the taping of the Sammy Davis Jr. 60th Anniversary TV Special.

November 16, 1989 - Michael appears on "The Arsenio Hall Show", surprising the audience and presenting Eddie Murphy with MTV’s "Humor God of the 80’s Award". Eddie likewise surprised Michael by presenting him with an award for MTV's "Greatest Video in the History of the World Award".

December 31, 1989 - Michael appears on "Cilla's Goodbye to the '80s", accepting the "Best-Selling Male Singer of the '80s Award" in the form of a scroll. Also, British TV Industry "Artist of the Decade Award"?
