Early 1988 - Michael's written message "The World of Michael Jackson" fifth international fan club newsletter, discussing his excitement of his "Bad World Tour" and thanking fans for support, is published.

February 1, 1988 - Michael's autobiography "Moonwalk", a collaboration with Shaye Areheart and Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, is published by Doubleday.

January 18 - February 11, 1988 - Michael rehearses for his "Bad Tour" in Pensacola, Florida, at the Pensacola Civic Center. Presenter Mary Hart covers the rehearsals for "Entertainment Tonight". IMPLEMENT MTV's ANOTHER PART OF ME SPECIAL

Early February 1988 - Michael films for the "Speed Demon" music video / short film.

February 6, 1988 - Michael's "Man in the Mirror" music video / short film, produced, directed, and edited by Don Wilson, using Michael's conceptual idea, is released with the "Man in the Mirror" single.

February 8, 1988 - Michael accepts the "Best International Solo Artist" award "live via satellite" (more likely taped) during his filming of "Speed Demon" for The 1988 Brit Awards.

February 23-24, 1988 - Michael kicks off the American leg of the Bad Tour in Kansas City, Missouri, USA, at Kemper Arena (Attendance 16,960); Michael interviews with "Jet" magazine backstage. He later meets up with journalist Lisa Robinson at the Westin Crown Center Hotel.

February 24, 1988 - Michael is reported to be working on "Strawberry Fields Forever", an animated musical of Beatles songs covered by various artists, recording "Come Together" as one of the contributions.

February 27, 1988 - Michael purchases Sycamore Valley Ranch from William Bone, which will eventually become his Neverland Ranch home.

Late February 1988 - Michael calls painter David Nordahl, interested in his work after seeing one of his paintings in Steven Spielberg's office.

March 1, 1988 - Michael attends a press conference arranged by Pepsi to preview the new Pepsi commercials featuring Michael (a four part story) and to present a $600,000 check to The United Negro College Fund. The press conference is held at "1018", a disco in Manhattan, New York, and beamed via satellite to journalists around the world. He also rehearses for his 1988 Grammy's performance for the following night.

March 2, 1988 - Bonus Document: Michael uses gift from Lisa Robinson sent to him after his meetup a week earlier.

March 3, 1988 - Michael performs a special private benefit show for the United Negro College Fund in New York City, New York at Madison Square Garden for his Bad Tour. Steve Stevens, the guitarist on the "Dirty Diana" track performs with Jennifer Batten during the song.

March 10, 1988 - Michael attends the United Negro College Fund's 44th annual anniversary dinner held at the Sheraton Hotel in New York City, and is awarded an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree from Fisk University for his service to the United Negro College Fund as one of their highest contributors. Quincy Jones, Whitney Houston, Yoko Ono, Elizabeth Taylor & Liza Minnelli attend the event. After Whitney Houston sings "Lift Ev'ry Voice and Sing" and "America, The Beautiful", and speeches by Liza Minelli, Elizabeth Taylor, and Quincy Jones  on Michael, Michael receives the Frederick D. Patterson Award.

March 12, 1988 - "Michael Jackson: The Legend Continues", a documentary that Michael's an executive producer for, airs on the US cable network Showtime. The special is narrated by James Earl Jones, features various TV clips, and has several contributions from those that has worked with him.

March 12-13, 1988 - Michael performs in St. Louis, Missouri at the St. Louis Arena for his "Bad World Tour". Michael returns a call to young fan Mandy Porter, who suffers from retinitis pigmentosa, a degenerative eye disease, who was unable to purchase tickets.

March 24-26, 1988 - Michael performs in Denver, Colorado, at the McNichols Sports Arena. He meets painter David Nordahl and they form a friendship.

March 26, 1988 - Michael attends a performance of Phantom Of The Opera with Jimmy Safechuck & Liza Minnelli.

April 1988 - Michael's interview with "Prevue" magazine, discussing going solo, being shy, "Captain EO", Diana Ross, spirituality, his sister Janet, Elizabeth Taylor, media, and future plans, is published.

April 12, 1988 - Weird Al Yankovic's "Fat" parody song of Michael's "Bad", which Michael personally approved in a co-writing credit contract, is released.

April 19-21, 1988 - Michael performs in Rosemont, Illinois at the Rosemont Horizon for The Bad Tour; on the 20th, Michael's autobiography "Moonwalk" is released, and he gives a copy to his mother Katherine at the venue. Michael is also presented with yet another key of a major city, Chicago (on the 21st). Mayor Eugene Sawyer presents Michael with a presentation key of the city. Michael invited friend Lola Falana, who was suffering from multiple sclerosis, to the presentation.

April 22, 1988 - Michael visits toy shop "Goodies" (later known as "Uncle Fun") in Chicago with friend James Safechuck and an entourage of 12 people; he takes a picture in a photobooth with shop owner Ted Frankel.

April 23, 1988 - Michael visits the Nostalgia Shop in Chicago with an entourage of 12 people; he buys some vintage magazines and a vintage Pepsi advertising button.

April 24, 1988 - Michael visits toy store FAO Schwarz with his entourage; he purchases a life-size Stieff lion and two lifelike Himsted dolls.

May 4-6, 1988 - Michael performs in Minneapolis, Minnesota at the Met Center for his "Bad World Tour".

May 18, 1988 - "Moonwalker", which includes "The Moon is Walking" from chroal group Ladysmith Black Mambazo in the end credits, premieres at the Cannes Film Festival in France. (Grab interviews from book, and various dates from Bad 25)

May 19, 1988 - Michael arrives in Rome and stays at the Lord Byron Hotel.

May 21, 1988 - Michael visits the Sistine Chapel in the accompanied by US Ambassador Maxwell Rabb.

May 22, 1988 - Michael visits sick children at the Bambin Gesu Children's Hospital in Rome - signing autographs and handing out candy, albums, and tapes.

May 23-24, 1988 - Michael performs in Rome, Italy at the Stadio Flaminio for his "Bad World Tour".

May 29, 1988 - Michael performs in Turin, Italy at the Stadio Comunale for his "Bad World Tour".

June 2, 1988 - Michael performs in Vienna, Austria at the Praterstadion for his "Bad World Tour".

June 5-7, 1988 - Michael performs in Rotterdam, Netherlands at the Feijenoord Stadium for his "Bad World Tour".

June 11-12, 1988 - Michael performs in Gothenburg, Sweden at Eriksberg.

June 16, 1988 - Michael performs in Basel, Switzerland at the St. Jakob Stadium. The next day (17), he visits Oona O’Neil Chaplin, Charlie Chaplin’s widow, at her home.

June 27, 1988 - Michael performs at Paris, France, at the Parc des Prince, where attendance is 64,000. Attended by Grace Jones & Johnny Holliday among others.  On that occasion the then Prime Minister Jacques Chirac honored Michael with La Grande Medaille de la Ville de Paris. (Grand Medal of the City of Paris), an honor usually given only to heads of state.

June 18, 1988 - Michael, in disguise, visits Berlin Zoo with bodyguard Bill Bray.

June 19, 1988 - Michael performs in West Berlin, Germany at the Reichstag building near the Berlin Wall.

June 27-28, 1988 - Michael performs in Paris, France at the Parc Des Princes. One of Michael's performances of "Another Part of Me" is filmed for part of his "Another Part of Me" short film / music video.

July 1988 - Michael visits Sammy Davis Jr. in Monte Carlo.

July 3, 1988 - Michael gets his photograph taken by visual artist Gottfried Helnwein.

July 11, 1988 - Michael arrives at London’s Heathrow Airport where the rooftop is lined with thousands of fans.

July 14-16, 22-23, 1988 - Michael performs in London, England, at Wembley Stadium; on the 16th, he meets both Princess Diana and Prince Charles before the concert. Michael's performance of "Another Part of Me" on the 15th is filmed for part of his "Another Part of Me" short film / music video.

July 20, 1988 - Michael visits sick children again at the Great Ormond Street Hospital. Michael is presented with a Sword to commemorate the Bad Tour at the Guildhall party, he is accompanied by then ten year old Jimmy Safechuck.

July 30-31, 1988 - Michael performs in Cork, Ireland, at the Páirc Uí Chaoimh for his "Bad World Tour".

August 13, 1988 - Michael joined Sammy Davis Jr. on stage at the Monte Carlo Sporting Night Club.

August 19, 1988 - Michael performs in Lausanne, Switzerland at the Stade olympique de la Pontaise for his "Bad World Tour".

August 26, 1988 - Michael performs in London, England at the Wembley Stadium, dedicating "I Just Can't Stop Loving You" to Elizabeth Taylor, who is very ill, and asking the audience for prayers.

August 29, 1988 - Michael performs in Leeds, England at the Roundhay Park for his "Bad World Tour"; the audience sings him "Happy Birthday".

September 11, 1988 - Michael performs in Liverpool, England, at Aintree Racecourse, for the last British stop of his Bad Tour.

Fall 1988 - Michael writes a message in Issue 6 of Michael Jackson International Fan Club, talking about the success of the Bad Tour and the positive emotions over his fans' support.

September 7, 1988 - Michael receives the MTV Video Vanguard Award from Peter Gabriel via satellite.

September 8, 1988 - Michael receives a special award by London's Wembley Stadium management for setting a new record for playing more dates at Wembley Stadium than any other artist. His 7 sell-out concerts were attended by 504,000 people, a distinction that earned him another entry in The Guinness Book Of World Records. His mother Katherine attends the presentation.

September 15, 1988 - Michael's approval of "Beat It" for use in The Flintstone Kids' "Just Say No" Special, airs.

October 23, 1988 - Michael presents a $125,000 donation check for Motown Museum to Berry Gordy and Esther Edwards, and thanks Gordy for his opportunities at Motown. He visits the museum, and donates one of his rhinestone gloves, a fedora hat, and the outfit he wore on American Bandstand in 1972 when he sang Ben.

October 30, 1988 - Michael accepts the "Best Male Solo Artist Award" via video at the "Smash Hits Poll Winners' Party" in London at Royal Albert Hall.

November 11, 1988 - Michael wins the Best Male Artist award and the Best Album award for 'Bad', at the 20th annual NAACP Image Awards. He was also honored with the "Leonard Carter Humanitarian Award" in recognition of his humanitarian endeavors, during the Image Awards ceremony, celebrating black achievements.

December 1988 - Michael writes a letter to William Pecchi Jr., a camera operator for Moonwalker who Michael hired to film crowd's reaction on the Bad Tour. The letter includes his Michael's goals for film, encouragement to Pecchi, reactions to conversations about racism, and Jackson's vision of the world.

Late December 1988 - Michael is reported to have made several visits to David Rothenburg, a 12-year-old who was hospitalised after his father set him alight in an act of revenge against his enstranged wife.

December 9-11, 17-19, 24-26, 1988 - Michael performs in Tokyo, Japan at the Tokyo Dome for his "Bad World Tour".

December 24-26, 1988 - Michael performs in Tokyo, Japan at Tokyo Dome for his Bad Tour. He meets rock band Bon Jovi, who happens to be staying at the same hotel.
