Rick Dees (KIIS-FM) Radio Interview
Transcript
Rick Dees: …book of world records now, for selling more singles, more albums, more cassettes, more CDs, than any human ever on Earth. [Cheers in studio] Michael, how are you?
Michael Jackson: I’m fine, how are you?
RD: Just wonderful. Where are you now?
MJ: I’m at home.
RD: Which one? [laughs]
MJ: Well… [laughs] There’s one in the city where I kinda stay sometime.
RD: That’s my man. Let me tell you something, Neverland is the greatest place. Where is your favorite place on the ranch now? ‘Cause when I saw it, you hadn’t even finished your theater, and I was just wondering if the popcorn is still free.
MJ: Oh, of course, anytime for you.
RD: What is it like now, ‘cause the giraffes, the llamas… and people don’t really understand it, there are some snakes up there. We went up to Michael Jackson’s ranch, and there was a rattlesnake out in the middle. Remember that?
MJ: I remember.
RD: He called him “Rattlin’ Rick” for a second and they made you get rid of it!
MJ: That’s right, and we were trying to catch it.
[Laughs in the studio]
RD: And somebody comes up and says, “Mike, I don’t think it’d be a good idea to catch the rattlesnake with your bare hands.” Stick with the llamas for right now, if it’s ok.
MJ: Thank you for everything you’ve done in the past, and even now.
RD: It’s an honor, Mike. It really is, and I don’t think people realize that you’ve got a great business. What a wonderful feeling to go out and take some of, actually personal, funds and start the “Heal the World Foundation”.
MJ: It makes my heart very happy to know I’m helping the children, because that’s where my heart is. And the rest of our band – everyone understands what we’re trying to do here, to give back.
RD: You love kids. Are you thinking about having a family of your own?
MJ: Yes.
RD: When?
MJ: Soon.
[Laughs in the studio]
RD: 'Cause I mean, you would be amazed Michael… I’m not talking about just the girls who go to the concerts, I’m talking about upwardly mobile, businesswomen who would be a challenge intellectually for you, who would love to spend some time with you, but it’s so hard to pierce through all the levels to even meet Michael Jackson. Is it ever possible to meet any of these people?
MJ: It’s very hard.
RD: It is tough, isn’t it?
MJ: Yes. Very difficult. Unfortunately, they’re pulling me away to go…
RD: Uh oh, you’re giving me the George Bush, where the –
Studio Member: “We’ve reached the disconnect point!” [Laughs]
RD: – the disconnect tunnel.
MJ: They are – I swear to you, they’re both – they’re sayin’ I’m gonna be late.
Studio Members: They’re pulling Michael away! [Laughs]
RD: Will you call me back, Michael? Now that you know it’s painless on the DEE Show, ok?
MJ: I love you all.
RD: Well, thank you, we love you too buddy, and you do great music, and you’re a gifted genius.
MJ: I love you.
