Bill Bray

Michael Jackson, “Moonwalk” autobiography (1988)

Bill is very careful and immensely professional in his job, but he doesn’t worry about things after the fact. He travels with me everywhere and occasionally he’s my only companion on short trips. I can’t imagine life without Bill; he’s warm and funny and absolutely in love with life. He’s a great man.

Bill, It’s been a long long road, we have traveled throughout the years, concert tours, meeting dignitaries, kings and queens of countries, touring around the world twice, making people happy through the gift and love of Music. I’m coming of age now and really [sic] realize the importance of true love. Joseph never ever had time for me, he only saw me as a way for him to make money. And as you know Mother was a perfect mother. But I never was with her, my childhood was on stage away from Mother. What I’m Simply Trying To Say Is Thank you For Being a FATHER. I don’t know what would have happened to me if you were not around. I love you, M.J.

Bill, thank you so much for all the years of love and compassion. You have become more Father like than Joseph. Thank you for being there at the right time and sharing your love. M.J.

I am deeply saddened by the passing of my dear and longtime friend, Mr. Bill Bray.

As I traveled throughout the world, Mr. Bray was there by my side. Bill Bray will forever have a special place in my heart.

I send my love and heartfelt sympathy to the Bray family.

Chris Cadman, author, “Michael Jackson the Maestro”

One of Michael’s most loyal companions over the years was Bill Bray who was assigned as bodyguard and security for Michael and his brothers at Motown in 1971. One of Bray’s first jobs was to take the brothers to Disneyland. During the early years Michael would be lifted off the floor by Bray to avoid being crushed by his fans.

When Michael and his brothers left Motown in 1975, Bray who was initially employed by the company left with them. He would be appointed by Michael in later years as Executive Director of Head of Security, In all Bray served Michael for over 25 years.

..Sadly, Michael and Bray parted company in 1997. No real reason was ever given, but it was believed that Bray was very ill. He later suffered cancer and strokes. He remained on Michael’s payroll up till his death on 15th November, 2005 aged 80 years old.
