"(I Can't Make It) Another Day"
Date confirmed in François Allard and Richard Lecocq’s “Michael Jackson: All the Songs: The Story Behind Every Track” (“1999”)
Lenny Kravitz, writer, Chris Cadman’s “Michael Jackson the Maestro”
Lenny Kravitz confirmed in 2001, in an interview in Blender magazine, a song he had been working on with Michael – failed to make the final track listing of Michael’s album, INVINCIBLE. “Working with Michael Jackson was probably the best recording experience of my life,” said Kravitz. “He was totally cool, absolutely professional and a beautiful, beautiful guy – and let’s not forget, Michael is a musical genius.”
“Sky News” (September 15, 2011)
Lenny Kravitz has described working with Michael Jackson as "incredible" and praised him as a "perfectionist" who made him laugh.
As preparations for the King of Pop's tribute concert in Cardiff next month continue, Kravitz spoke to Sky News about working with the singer on the track, Another Day, which he wrote for Jackson.
"It was probably the most incredible collaboration I have ever done," he said. "I was so inspired by him as a child... working with him was fantastic."
"Here's a guy who's been doing it for all these years and he's not jaded, still a perfectionist, still driven, still comes into the studio and spends all day and all night until he gets it right and come in the next day and the next day."
"He's a very funny gentleman, we laughed the entire time we did it. He's really fun."

1
00:00:00,030 —> 00:00:01,890
there's a track on the album called lo
2
00:00:01,890 —> 00:00:04,770
which features a guest spot by Michael
3
00:00:04,770 —> 00:00:06,779
Jackson mm-hmm I'm sure you can explain
4
00:00:06,779 —> 00:00:09,929
this well I worked with Michael years
5
00:00:09,929 —> 00:00:13,590
ago I wrote and produced a song for him
6
00:00:13,590 —> 00:00:15,809
called another day which ended up coming
7
00:00:15,809 —> 00:00:18,289
out on the Michael album after he passed
8
00:00:18,289 —> 00:00:23,150
it was intended for the invincible album
9
00:00:23,150 —> 00:00:25,380
but when they were putting the album
10
00:00:25,380 —> 00:00:27,090
together and they were sequencing it the
11
00:00:27,090 —> 00:00:28,640
people that were working with him
12
00:00:28,640 —> 00:00:31,199
thought that it was it was too rock and
13
00:00:31,199 —> 00:00:33,899
that album was was more mellow and beats
14
00:00:33,899 —> 00:00:36,420
and harmonies songs like butterflies on
15
00:00:36,420 —> 00:00:39,329
their it was beautiful so Michael hell
16
00:00:39,329 —> 00:00:41,160
did he kept telling me I'm gonna put on
17
00:00:41,160 —> 00:00:43,020
the next record because I love this
18
00:00:43,020 —> 00:00:46,110
track and you know in his tradition of
19
00:00:46,110 —> 00:00:49,260
be tits and dirty Diana's and you know
20
00:00:49,260 —> 00:00:53,820
the Michael Jackson type rock song this
21
00:00:53,820 —> 00:00:56,160
this fit that category what was you'd
22
00:00:56,160 —> 00:00:57,120
like to work with it's just really
23
00:00:57,120 —> 00:00:59,460
businesslike and not gonna ever say he
24
00:00:59,460 —> 00:01:04,049
was he was really fun he um he didn't he
25
00:01:04,049 —> 00:01:06,630
trusted me which was beautiful I mean he
26
00:01:06,630 —> 00:01:09,330
because he said okay I'm gonna come in
27
00:01:09,330 —> 00:01:10,619
in two days and you're gonna have
28
00:01:10,619 —> 00:01:14,729
something for me I am okay so I spent
29
00:01:14,729 —> 00:01:18,150
two days in the studio like working what
30
00:01:18,150 —> 00:01:19,830
am I gonna I don't have anything yeah
31
00:01:19,830 —> 00:01:21,780
what am I gonna do so I just really
32
00:01:21,780 —> 00:01:24,479
thought about him and I just started to
33
00:01:24,479 —> 00:01:28,320
channel his vibe and wrote that song and
34
00:01:28,320 —> 00:01:31,140
then he came in and I had the song they
35
00:01:31,140 —> 00:01:34,229
said okay teach me the song so I first I
36
00:01:34,229 —> 00:01:36,570
played in the song he he liked it and
37
00:01:36,570 —> 00:01:39,210
then he said okay teach me the song the
38
00:01:39,210 —> 00:01:42,060
phrasing I wrote out the words we went
39
00:01:42,060 —> 00:01:44,189
over the vocals and then he goes behind
40
00:01:44,189 —> 00:01:47,030
the glass into the room and he says I
41
00:01:47,030 —> 00:01:50,759
want to do this exactly the way you want
42
00:01:50,759 —> 00:01:54,750
it so if you wanted to hear that yeah so
43
00:01:54,750 —> 00:02:00,180
if I mess up stop me so he starts
44
00:02:00,180 —> 00:02:04,439
playing and I start singing the track
45
00:02:04,439 —> 00:02:07,520
comes on and within about three words he
46
00:02:07,520 —> 00:02:10,770
messed the melody up but I'm standing
47
00:02:10,770 —> 00:02:12,930
there next to but at the talk button
48
00:02:12,930 —> 00:02:13,500
right there
49
00:02:13,500 —> 00:02:15,810
am I really gonna stop Michael Jackson
50
00:02:15,810 —> 00:02:18,840
from singing like this is what I have to
51
00:02:18,840 —> 00:02:22,080
do sighs Michael no that's not how it
52
00:02:22,080 —> 00:02:22,260
goes
53
00:02:22,260 —> 00:02:25,530
yeah it goes like this lalalalala okay
54
00:02:25,530 —> 00:02:25,950
great
55
00:02:25,950 —> 00:02:28,800
music starts it does it again he messes
56
00:02:28,800 —> 00:02:32,220
up again so this happened for about 15
57
00:02:32,220 —> 00:02:35,030
minutes it was funny but he's like no no
58
00:02:35,030 —> 00:02:37,350
don't stop doing that I want to do it
59
00:02:37,350 —> 00:02:39,870
exactly the way you wrote it in the way
60
00:02:39,870 —> 00:02:43,170
you want then he got it and we we worked
61
00:02:43,170 —> 00:02:46,459
for we actually worked for a few days
62
00:02:46,459 —> 00:02:48,870
it's a lot of vocals a lot of background
63
00:02:48,870 —> 00:02:51,300
vocals and then on the last day where he
64
00:02:51,300 —> 00:02:53,130
had to do the ad-libs which were very
65
00:02:53,130 —> 00:02:57,660
high and very strong where he's like
66
00:02:57,660 —> 00:02:59,820
screaming doing that Michael like hi
67
00:02:59,820 —> 00:03:05,040
screaming gritty you know he he warmed
68
00:03:05,040 —> 00:03:07,320
up for about an hour he says you've got
69
00:03:07,320 —> 00:03:09,930
30 minutes and I'll be hoarse I won't be
70
00:03:09,930 —> 00:03:11,340
able to sing after that so get it now
71
00:03:11,340 —> 00:03:13,410
and make sure I get it right but point
72
00:03:13,410 —> 00:03:18,620
being is super professional hmm
73
00:03:19,610 —> 00:03:22,290
his you you know after all these years
74
00:03:22,290 —> 00:03:27,600
he hasn't lost the passion he hasn't
75
00:03:27,600 —> 00:03:29,910
gotten lazy I'm Michael Jackson I'll
76
00:03:29,910 —> 00:03:31,830
just you know do what I want whatever
77
00:03:31,830 —> 00:03:32,820
and it'll be great
78
00:03:32,820 —> 00:03:37,980
he still strived to be great and super
79
00:03:37,980 —> 00:03:41,489
funny really funny like cracking jokes
80
00:03:41,489 —> 00:03:46,920
laughed a lot yeah and for the skinny
81
00:03:46,920 —> 00:03:51,090
guy that he was I never saw anybody eat
82
00:03:51,090 —> 00:00:00,000
more food in my life
