Date assessed by the facts that “after the Christmas break” (Mike Smallcombe), Jimmy Jam said that “Michael mentioned to Jam that he needed to write a title tune, ‘HIStory’... so we went back to Minneapolis and made the music track, and then Michael did his thing on the melody.”; it would have been completed before March 27, 1995, when album mastering was completed.
