"Elvis: The Tribute" Attendance
Date confirmed in “Hartford Courant” (archived) (“Saturday [October 8, 1994]”)
“The New York Times” (October 10, 1994) (archived)
No sight was more memorable at the tribute than the newest addition to the Presley family, Michael Jackson, who married Lisa Marie Presley, Elvis and Priscilla's daughter, this year. He sat with his wife and his mother-in-law on one side of him and his sister Janet Jackson on the other, shyly covering his face as if pop music were a throne that he had inherited against his will. It was an apt image to close the tribute, because the union of these two royal families of pop was just one more example of the many twists and turns Mr. Presley's legacy continues to take.

"I know the King is smilin,' " said John Stamos, as he introduced the biggest stars, sitting in something of a royal box: Priscilla Presley, with her daughter Lisa Marie Presley and son-in-law, Michael Jackson. Jackson hid his face playfully behind a curtain as he sat next to his sister, Janet, none of whom were pressed into action when they were so desperately needed.
