[Top Male Vocalist]:

Michael: Thank you. I'm very - uh - honored, I'm very happy to win this award. And I liked to thank the public as well as all the people who voted for me. And also I like to - uh - thank the other nominees because when you think about it, we're all winners. I love you all, thank you.

[Single Record of the Year]:

Michael: Thank you very much. I thank everyone again who voted for me. I thank the public as well as the disc jockeys.

Of all the songs in the Thriller album I think - uh - I'm more happy about Billie Jean than any of them. Uhm - 'cause there's a lot of truth in this song. I love you all and thank you.

[Best Video Performance]:

Michael: Boy - uhm - again. I must say thank you so much - uhm. I'm very honored to get this award. I worked very hard on my videos and - uh - I play a major role in bringing them about and making them magic and everything that I see in my dreams and I thank you all. This is very wonderful. Thank you.

[Album of the Year (producers)]:

Michael: Thank you very much. This is - uh. I'm very happy, I don't know what to say - uhm. Doing the Thriller album was a very incredible, wonderful experience, working with Quincy Jones and - uh - working with so many wonderful musicians. I'd like to thank you all. I'm so honored and - uh - I'd like to say I love you and I have nothing more to say.

Within 24 hours of grabbing a record eight Grammy Awards,Michael Jackson won four trophies in the first annual Black Gold Awards to honor achievement in soul music.

The ceremonies were taped Wednesday at the Cocoanut Grove for a two-hour special produced by the Dick Clark Company to be broadcast in March and April.

Jackson won awards as top male vocalist, and for top single, top album and top video.

Top female vocalist was Gladys Knight and top vocal group was Gladys Knight and the Pips. Hottest male and female newcomers were Kashif and Janet Jackson.

The hottest new group was judged to be Klique. Quincy Jones won record producer of the year. Best video performance went to Jackson for 'Beat It' and song of the year went to Lionel Richie for 'All Night Long.'

Single record of the year went to Jackson for 'Billie Jean' and he took album of the year honors for 'Thriller.' The instrumental record of the year went to Herbie Hancock for 'Rockit.'

Winners of the Black Gold Awards are based on the year-end survey of the music industry trade publication Radio & Records.
