The Brotman Medical Center Thursday renamed its burn ward in honor of its most famous former patient, singer Michael Jackson, who attended the ceremonies wearing his trademark glove and dark glasses.

Dr. Donald Bernstein, the hospital's administrator, said the center will be aided by a fund started with money the entertainer has donated to the hospital.

Bernstein declined to disclose the amount Jackson donated.

Money from the fund will pay for education, research and reconstructive surgery on the center's burn patients.

'We are extremely proud and honored and look forward to the future when the fund will be enhanced and we can provide more care to burn patients,' Bernstein said at a news conference where the shy superstar said only 'Thank You,' in response to the ceremony.

In January, Jackson suffered scalp burns while filming a soft drink commercial that involved exploding fireworks. He was treated at the burn center where he made good will visits to the other patients.

The donation is the latest of Jackson's philanthropic ventures. He has promised to donate his share of profits from the recent 'Victory' tour to charity.
