The special jackets Michael wore for his historical record breaking award shows at the American Music and Grammy shows were compared by reporters to The Beatles Sergeant Pepper look of the 60s. Michael had picked one up from a London flea market in 1983 on a brief visit and had it rejuvenated.

“Michael chose it himself,” said an aide, “though he was eventually recognised by other shoppers.”
