Dave Prince Radio interview (1979), from Chris Cadman’s “Michael Jackson the Maestro” (summary/quotes)

American Radio presenter Dave Prince interviewed the Jacksons on his radio show in 1979, during the Jacksons promotion of their Destiny album and tour.

Highlights from the interview included:

The brothers talking about doing back to back shows one day at the Apollo and Regal Theatre, with just a 10 minute break in between.

Jackie said if the audience didn’t like you they would throw things at you like tomatoes and eggs. There was also a giant hook that was used to pull poor acts off stage.

Michael and his brothers earned more money from the audience throwing it on stage in appreciation than their actual fee.

The brothers remembered getting home very late in the morning, and then having to get up early to go to school.

When they wrote songs when leaving Motown, they’d all gather at Tito’s to work on ideas, usually spending six hours a day looking to create a hit record.
