"Rock and Soul" Magazine Interview
Date Range assessed by the fact that the interview took place when “Michael and his brothers were working on the Destiny album”
“Rock and Soul Magazine” (January 1979), from Chris Cadman’s “Michael Jackson the Maestro” (article summary/quotes)
On acting:
“It was a very challenging experience. When I saw the original “Wizard Of Oz” – the MGM one, I fell in love with the scarecrow. I think most kids do. I saw the Broadway play seven times before I knew I’d be in the movie. All of a sudden I got this phone call and I flipped. I was so happy. I just studied my lines and really play it the way I felt it.”
On still making records:
“Oh yes, it’s still exciting but the movie was so important to me because it was something fresh and new. And that’s what makes me never tire of the world of entertainment. Maybe ten years from now I’d like to direct, or something. There’s something new to do.”
On his new Silver Blue Rolls Royce:
“Yes, it’s my favorite car. I know how to drive it but I hate to take pictures in it. You know, you see so many people with their new cars and it’s a little show-offy . I’m really not like that.”
On romancing Janelle Commissiong:
“That’s a hard question to answer, ha ha. Really. I don’t know what to say.”
