"Right On!" Magazine Interview
“Right On!” magazine, “Through the Years with Michael Jackson!” (1981)
“I’m interested in creative writing, especially Edgar Allan Poe type stories. The teacher makes me read them in class. I never want to, but she insists. So I do, and afterward, everyone starts clapping and that makes me want to improve and get better.
“Sometimes I read things that are written about me and my brothers. It’s interesting and some of it is true. What bothers me is when something is totally made up. Still, I don’t write to the editors or anything like that. I just let it be because that’s a part of show business and you have to adjust to it.
“On stage is the only time I really open up. I say to myself, ‘This is it, this is home, this is where I’m supposed to be, where God meant me to be.’ I feel so free, so unlimited on stage. I feel like I can do anything. It feels so good when the lights hit me and I feel the audience. I can almost taste that feeling now. I eat it up. Performing is better than anything else I can think off.”
