Michael and Jackie escorted the author of this article around their new California home which was about 35 minutes from Los Angeles, but done in 10 minutes if you’re driven by Jackie.

To combat periods of boredom when they were not recording or touring, father Joe Jackson made provisions to have as many amenities as possible available for his boys to enjoy. Michael told the reporter:

“For a start we’ve got the swimming pool. It’s enormous and it’s entirely surrounded by orange trees. It’s just like being on a tropical island or something.”

The family had everything at their disposal to keep them occupied with Jackie disclosing that they were about to build their own home studio.

They had their own basketball and volleyball court and a sufficient recreation room. Michael continued:

“We have our own pool table – you in Britain call it billiards I think. And then there’s a bubble gum machine too – fully stocked, day and night.”

Jackie had a new car but explained he hardly had time to use it as they rarely had any time off from their busy schedule.
