Editor of Star magazine Nancy Hardwick spent a day at the Jackson family house to interview Michael, who greeted her by the swimming pool with the family dogs Black Girl and Heavy.
Michael discussed a couple fashion accessories he was wearing:
“Aren’t they great? They’re all from my fans! My leather choker is also from a fan in Atlanta, and my silver bracelet here with the ‘M’ on it is a present from Jermaine! I love jewellery and far out rags.”
Michael explained that when he was at home he enjoyed playing pool with Jermaine, swimming in the family pool and drawing, which was his favourite subject at school.
Michael said he’d just filmed the Dating Game. He disclosed he’d never been on a date alone; he’d only ever dated with his brothers around.
Michael had recently been in the studio recording The Jackson 5’s new album and rehearsing for the next tour that was due to kick off 2nd July at Madison Square Gardens in New York City. (Note: it actually kicked off 30th June).
During the interview the rest of his brother’s turned up for rehearsals and Hardwick is invited to watch. Michael is asked who takes care of the dance steps.
“That’s Marlon. He’s the dance man around here! He comes up with all types of funky steps, and puts them together in a routine.”
Jermaine chipped in with how proud he was of Michael gaining two gold discs for his solo songs.
“Hey did you know that Michael had two gold records in a row! ‘Rockin’ Robin’ and ‘Got To Be There’! It’s the first time that a young black recording artist ever got that honor! We’re all real proud of him!”
