"Teen Life" Magazine Interview

“Teen Life” magazine (January 1972), from Chris Cadman’s “Michael Jackson the Maestro” (article summary/quotes)

The Jackson 5 divulged a lot of their lives for the teen magazines and fans worldwide, but thought it was impossible to tell everything as things got forgotten along the way, while others were personal memories.

They often did their school work on the road and we’re only permitted to stay up for an hour after their concerts, especially if they recording or doing another show the following day.

Marlon loved to be very active so being busy suited him.

Michael agreed with Marlon.

“So do I, besides being so busy solves my allowance problems. I don’t have time to spend too much money on games, comic books or the movies. So at the end of the week, I even have some change from my five dollar allowance left.”

Jackie found he had the same problem saving his allowance, even though he was studying on a business administrative course. He found he didn’t heed the advice he gave his brothers about saving their allowances, often going in to a record store to buy either the latest Diana Ross or Temptations albums.

On the subject of girls, Michael said;

“I’m kind of shy. I guess I don’t seem that way when I’m on stage, but I am. I go for girls who are on the quiet side, too. I don’t like girls rushing the stage. Things like that can really embarrass me.”
