Interview with Judy Weiser, first “Right On!” Editor

April, 1972

Judy: What are the names of your dogs which are barking in the background?

Michael: Lobo, Heavy, and Black Girl.

Judy: I've heard talk about people in the group doing some solo recordings. Will everyone eventually go solo?

Michael: Not go solo.

Judy: Just do a solo album?

Michael: Yes.

Judy; Do you ever think about writing your own songs?

Michael: Yes.

Judy: What's been the most exciting thing that's happened since "I Want You Back" was released?

Michael: When I found out it went number one.

Judy: Any other changes?

Michael: No.

Judy: Has it changed how your girlfriends felt?

Michael: I don't have any.

Judy: Why is that?

Michael: I'm too young and I'm always busy.

Judy: Would you like to become an actor?

Michael: Yeah.

Judy: Who are your favorite comedians?

Michael: Jerry Lewis and Flip Wilson.

Judy: I notice you've been sneaking Randy into some of the shows. How do you feel happens with the audience?

Michael: Everyone jumps up... and they like it. He's our brand new thing. We do a whole medley with him.

Judy: How do you feel since you used to be the youngest?

Michael: I think it's good he'll be in the group. He used to practice with us in Gary and he's tried real hard.

Judy: What do you do when you're not in school or rehearsing?

Michael: I play in the music room, watch TV, or swim.

Judy: How do you prepare your routines for shows?

Michael: We all get together and talk about it, then we write down things we're going to do and then we get up and do it.

Judy: What are your favorite songs?

Michael: "Rockin' Robin" and "I Want You Back".

Judy: Is it true you and Donny Osmond are friends?

Michael: Yes. He calls sometimes.

Judy: What kinds of things do you rap about?

Michael: Football and stuff.

Judy: The girls are probably wondering what kind do you like best, so why don't you tell us?

Michael: I'll tell you. As long as they have a good personality...

Judy: What's a good personality?

Michael: Well, like, you wouldn't get a girl and marry her in one day, would you? You'd have to talk with her first and see what she's like.
