"Right On!" Magazine Interview

Date confirmed in “Right On!” magazine (“[Quotes from 1971”)

“Right On!” magazine, “Through the Years with Michael Jackson!” (1981) (archived)

“I had to debut as a solo recording artist sooner or later. I had to do it now, or else these four old men (my brothers!) would have beaten me to it.

“It has nothing to do with splitting up and it’s important that people know that. We still record and perform together. In fact, we just finished recording some songs with our youngest brother Randy and the reaction is really something!

“I haven’t really had any girlfriends yet, but I’ll tell you what I’d like to find in a girl. She has to have a good personality. I wouldn’t want to even go out with a girl unless I had talked to her for a while, seen what she’s like, asked her a lot of questions.”

“Soul” magazine (November 22, 1971), quotes from same interview, from Chris Cadman’s “Michael Jackson the Maestro”

“Now that I have cut my first single [“Got to be There”], I don’t see why I can’t do a whole album.”
