Hal Davis, producer, Tavis Smiley and David Ritz’ “Before You Judge Me: The Triumph and Tragedy of Michael Jackson's Last Days”
“One night, Bobby [Taylor] had Michael in the studio singing Clyde McPhatter’s ‘Money Honey’ when Berry [Gordy] walked in”, remembered Motown producer Hal Davis. “Berry told Bobby he was making a mistake by restricting them to R&B. Berry wanted pop songs. In his spitfire manner, Bobby gave Berry the finger. Then Berry gave Bobby the boot.”
